Sabah CM Wants Through Investigations On Homeless Sabahans In KL

PENAMPANG, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman has instructed two state ministries to investigate a report claiming that many Sabahans were stranded, unemployed and homeless in Kuala Lumpur.

"I have instructed both the Community Development and Consumer Affairs Ministry and the Human Resource Information Technology Development Ministry to look into the allegation and conduct a thorough investigation on the Sabahans who were said to be homeless in Kuala Lumpur.

"I also advise those without permanent (job) contracts or confirmation from valid employment agents not to go to Kuala Lumpur to avoid being cheated and stranded in the capital," he told reporters after attending Penampang MCA's Chinese New Year open house here Saturday.

Musa was commenting on report by a local daily yesterday which stated that many Sabahans were homeless and unemployed in Kuala Lumpur.

In the report the reporter claimed to have met with 15 Sabahans and three Sarawakians at a shelter home run by a non-governmental organisation which offered free food for the homeless in Kuala Lumpur.

The report said that the number of homeless Sabahans in Kuala Lumpur was estimated at 400 people.

According to the report, most of the Sabahans had came to the peninsular, with the promise of jobs by private employment agents but were later laid off due to involvement in social problems.

"If they are unemployed or homeless in Kuala Lumpur, it's better for them to just come back to Kota Kinabalu where they can find a job or start a small business to earn a proper income," Musa added.
