Tun Dr Ismail & Malay Special Right

Labels: ,

Quoting from the book, page 226 on interview with Tun Ghafar Baba in 16 October 2005

""An UMNO man complained at a meeting that despite Malay rights, the Malaysian contingent preparing for the Munich Olympics was made up mainly of Chinese.

"Where are Malay rights there?" he asked. No one knew what to say, and it fell on Ismail to answer:

"Special rights are only in the field of economics, not in sport," he ventured.

"Do you mean to say we should use strings to make Malays good at high jump?"

At that he burst out laughing. That was one of the few times i saw him laugh so heartily""

I think during his time, the intention of NEP and hence the special right are for different intentions and purposes. No one including me questioning the special right of the Malay and also the indigenous people of West Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. No No we are not. We are asking everyone to step back and look at the bigger picture and move on with time.

My late grandma (my mother's mother) who passed away Jan 2006 is a Indigenous people of Sarawak, She is a Kayan and her name is Mujan Wan.

Love you and missed you Grandma!
