Malaysian Flag in Distress No More! Anwar Win!

Labels:

I am joining the group of blogger who is raising our flag upside down as sign of distress for Malaysia. Hoisting the flag upside down is not disrespect to the flag or country. Wikipedia information

 Techniques in flag display

  • Hoist – the act or function of raising a flag, as on a rope.
  • Lower – the act or function of taking down a flag, as on a rope.
  • Half Staff or Half Mast – a style of flag display in which the flag is flown at half of the potential height of the available flag pole. Usually this is done by first hoisting the flag to the top, then lowering it to halfway. (Equally valid 'half-masting' is flying the flag at two-thirds of its normal height. This is especially applicable where the full height of the pole is not visible to most observers; for instance, where the pole is mounted on the roof of a building and the lower portion of the pole is not visible from street level.) This usually denotes distress or a show of grief, such as mourning a death. The use of 'mast' suggests naval use but typically the two terms are interchangeable.
  • Distress – flying the flag upside-down, or tying it into a wheft. [1]

Lets hoist our flag upside down for the month of August

The authority should come in and stop this blog because it starts hatred among many innocent Malaysian, especially the Malays. This is the blog that creates hatred in the Malay society against fellow Malaysian Chinese, Indian and other. Stop this blog if you want to leave in peace and harmony.

Dear Shaydflin,

I never have the intention of creating hatred in Malaysian society. I love Malaysia too much for that. Why should I created hatred in Malay society against fellow Malaysian Chinese, Indian and others? FYI I am a Malaysian Chinese, however I prefer to be refer to as just a Malaysian, Anak Malaysia.

Please tell me which posting is not true in our society? Which posting create hatred? I am more than willing to delete them.

Running away from the issue does not help, ignoring the issue will not make it go away.. read about the mouse trap story and also the monk story and learn something from it...

The flying of the national flag upside down is a desperate attempt by the rakyat to inform the leaders of the plight the rakyat are in dire straits unlike what shaydflin said. The goman should make a serious efforts to calm the rakyat.

Other blogs are more daring than the one, if the gomen want to stop this blog, stop that blog...might as well go to hell! Do you understand the meaning of DEMOCRACY? REFORMASI? FREEDOM OF PRESS?....it is sad indeed to see that there are still people like you around......sic.

On the contrary – you are the naïve one. Freedom or press? Read the constitution thoroughly (that is, if you could comprehend) before you choose to talk about freedom of speech, freedom of movement or freedom assembly.

Article 10 of the Federal Constitution:
(1) Subject to Clauses (2), (3) and (4) -
o (a) every citizen has the right to freedom of speech and expression;
o (b) all citizens have the right to assemble peaceably and without arms;
o (c) all citizens have the right to form associations.
• (2) Parliament may by law impose -
o (a) on the rights conferred by paragraph (a) of Clause (1),such restrictions
as it deems necessary or expedient in the interest of the security of the
Federation or any part thereof, friendly relations with other countries,
public order or morality and restrictions designed to protect the privileges
of Parliament or of any Legislative Assembly or to provide against
contempt of court, defamation, or incitement to any offence;
o (b) on the right conferred by paragraph (b) of Clause (1), such restrictions
as it deems necessary or expedient in the interest of the security of the
Federation or any part thereof, or public order;

Article 149 of the Federal Constitution:
• (1) If an act of parliament recites that action has been taken or threatened by any
substantial body of persons, whether inside or outside the Federation -
o (a) to cause, or to cause a substantial number of citizens to fear, organised
violence against persons or property; or
o (b) to excite disaffection against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or any
Government in the Federation; or
o (c) to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or
other classes of the population likely to cause violence; or
o (d) to procure the alteration, otherwise than by lawful means, of anything
by law established; or
o (e) which is prejudicial to the maintenance or the functioning of any
supply or service to the public or any class of the public in the Federation
or any part thereof; or
o (f) which is prejudicial to public order in, or the security of, the Federation
or any part thereof,

Shiok guy,

Intention is can be expressed or implied. You are playing on dangerous grounds. Don’t we have any other alternatives in expressing our dissatisfactory?

Dear Afif

I am not sure which part of this blog is or are offensive. Kindly email me privately and I am very much wanting to apologize if i have been offensive.

If any of the post here is offensive do let me know and I am more than willing to correct them. After all that's how we learn and move forward. Right?

Thank in advance

Shiok Guy

My dear friend afif, you quote Malaysian law as though it is the final word on the subject of free speech. Have you not considered the possibility that the law itself is flawed? This is certainly the case in many other situations, both in Malaysia and the wider world. In fact, it is why Malaysia is only considered a partially-functioning democracy, and not a fully-functioning democracy, like the USA, the UK, Australia, Chile, and so on. The right of free speech should not be restricted. There's a reason it's called a right, and a reason it's called free. It is entirely within these bloggers' rights to show the Malaysian (or any other nation's) flag upside down, and if the Malaysian government DID attempt to remove it, it would be a sad day for the future of Malaysian democracy, Malaysian peace, and Malaysian harmony.

I'm not a Malaysian, but I live in a nearby country and have been there many times. I hope Malaysia can someday become a great nation, and this is one of the steps to getting there.

Dear Durandal,

Thank you I admire you pointing out your points politely.

The constitution I feel, is conclusive, definitely it is the apex of our legal system. Yes, it is always the question of what is law and what is justice, we hardly see both intertwine. Maybe the law is flawed or maybe it is not, we do not know that yet. It develops like a stack of bricks pilling up one another. We are looking at what governs the society here, a civil federation of state societies and I think it deems fit that a civil way of doing things is important.

I strongly suggest, flagging the Malaysian flag upside down is out of the norm here, in Malaysia. The flag is not entrusted for one person to safeguard, it is never mine nor yours or them, and it is the rightful owner of every citizen in Malaysia as a whole. It is the right of our forefathers, our forefather’s father and every single being that has bled for the nation.

Democracy - Are you sure you want a 100% democratic federation? The most democratic nation that I could recall to the best of my knowledge is England where there is no written constitution, and basically everything the parliament says, IS the constitution. Therefore no restrictions and citizens are obliged to follow anything instructed by the parliament, the very people they have voted for, to whom they have given absolute supremacy to govern the Federation. This is how they governed themselves, and I’m not pointing any flaws nor was I implying also, this serves as an example.

On the contrary, the constitution was the only one that has protected us of our rights and liberties. Parliament with a 2/3 majority could not amend it at their whims and fancies on certain contexts.

To my dearest patriot, Shiok Guy

I too have a cause, which is of the same purpose but opposing your methods.

Have a read: http://www.afifhamzah.com/2008/01/1.html

Maybe I could convince you otherwise, maybe I could not but there’s no harm trying. After all, we are all striving for one purpose, a better Malaysia. In every sense of the word.

Dear Afif

I am not so patriotic as I want to be, since we live in peace time except bad government.

I have visit your blog and happy to see you are fighting for a better Malaysia. I respect your way and i hope you respect mine.

After DSAI won the by-election, I have decided to fly my beloved flag upright, to symbolize a nation in the path of recovery..

Long Live the King
Long Live the King
Long Live the King

Malaysia Reborn!

Shiok Guy

Thank you shiok guy,

for raising it back as it is supposed to be, regardless of your reasons.

If DSAI is the solution, than we are looking at the light at the end of the tunnel.

But we aren’t of sure that, aren’t we?

Dear Afif

Frankly speaking we Malaysian has not much of a choice. DSAI was part of the system before. I too have my doubt about him, however it is a lot better than what we have right now.

If he does not deliver, we the Rakyat will get him out again!

I still belief it is the right protocol to fly the flag upside down as sign of distress. You have used Japanese and Indonesia flag to support your view. However for those country they can use another mean to show the distress. I choose Jalur Gembilang because of my love for it.

Did you see how the flag is hoist in SIRIM? Please write to them and lecture them about how it should be hoisted. Check my blog on "set me free and let me fly"

At the mean time, thank you brother (younger?) for dropping by and share your view. We all Anak Malaysia!

Shiok Guy
